Meet Luke Dekker
When in doubt… GO FOR IT!
My name is Luke Dekker. I’m 23 and was born and raised in Heerhugowaard. My girlfriend and I have been together for 6 years. We met while we were working together at the Vomar ‘Stad van de Zon’. In the summer of 2017, I was helping my father in his electrician’s business. I had to do a job at Jordy’s (my cousin and now also my colleague…). While we were having lunch, I told him I was studying marketing at Horizon College in Alkmaar. He asked if I needed an internship placement and lo and behold, two weeks later I was sitting here talking to Henk and Fleur.
ValueBlue feels a lot like home. I’ve been here now for almost two years and I’m really enjoying it. When you work here, they give you a chance to develop yourself. They really want the best for you, and all my colleagues are great – and I mean really great! Talking about chances: when I started here 18 months ago, I was sure that I wanted to work in Sales. Now it turns out that it’s not the right place for me, that I’m not happy there. ValueBlue is giving me the chance to discover myself again.
ValueBlue really listens
I wanted something else and they happened to be looking for an office manager. After several interviews, I started doing this work and it really suits me. As a Jack-of-all-trades, I can let my creativity run free on different levels and add value to this great company. It means a lot to me that they gave me – and are still giving me – those chances! I’m really looking forward to this new challenge.
I think it’s important that you believe in the product or the service you’re offering. And for me that’s definitely true about ValueBlue. BlueDolphin is an innovative solution that’s being developed all the time. And ValueBlue really listens to its customers and understands what they need.
I’ve never ever heard any complaints
If you ask me where ValueBlue will be in 5 years, the words ‘market leader’ come to mind. When I look back at the past two years at ValueBlue, I have to say that it has really exceeded my expectations. At the start of my internship, there were often just two people (including myself) in the office. Now all 30 places are regularly filled, while there are also people working at home. So the company is really growing. Added to that, I think we’re making great progress in the USA.
I like the motto: “When in doubt, go for it!” People often do the opposite, probably because they’re afraid, but I think that doing it has better results in life than doing nothing. Of course, it doesn’t apply to every situation, but you know what I mean, right? My favorite food? Chicken, I really love chicken! What I’m proud of? I’m really proud of my Dad, because besides a full-time job he had to (successfully) take care of 3 children aged 2, 6 and 7 and I never heard him complaining.
